Notes on the status

The status of the (pre-)standardization activity is roughly split into 5 phases:

  • phase 0: simply an idea, intention, internal consideration to create a (pre-)standard
  • phase 1: a publication of some work without any reviewing process, like a project deliverable, technical report, online note
  • phase 2: pre-standardization in an informal WG outside of a formal standardization body
  • phase 3: early standardization as part of having set up a WG within a formal standardization body, production of an early draft
  • phase 4: mid-standardization within the formal standardization body through the achievement of a certain intermediate acceptance status within the body
  • phase 5: end standardization within the formal standardization body, marked by a closing publication of the standard by the body and closing of the standardization process
